I am a PhD student at Princeton ORFE working on theoretical and empirical deep learning and mathematical statistics. I am privileged to be advised by Matias D. Cattaneo and Boris Hanin.
Prior to Princeton, I studied mathematics (specializing in probability theory) at Moscow State University in Moscow where I grew up, and worked part-time as a software engineer at Yandex. I have enjoyed both coding up experiments and proving theorems. On that note, I’m drawn to the common ground between empirical science and mathematics, sometimes appreciating Vladimir Arnold’s exaggerative dictum that mathematics is the part of physics where experiments are cheap.
I consider my values aligned with general (!) philosophical principles of effective altruism (practical details are up for debate). In particular, I aspire to contribute to research that has a positive long-term impact, to the best of my estimation and ability.
If you are interested in jokes, please consider skipping this paragraph and referring to accomplishments listed in my CV. In my spare time, I enjoy making up hobbies no one would check I actually have. This includes hiking, cycling, swimming, traveling the world and meeting great people. Regarding non-human animals, I endorse dogs (excluding very small angry dogs) but offer no comment about cats or rodents (including very small angry dogs). Just kidding.
